The Connected Car

Today, smartphones and tablets have become an essential part of any computing experience. They take a special importance in the world of business as they continually to provide tools and gadgets that change the way we do business on a daily business. The world of mobile devices continues to experience exponential growth and developments. The next step in this developing world may be the connected car. Several major manufacturers have recently released concept models in this respect.

Today’s cars actually already feature an array of electronics that perform a multitude of tasks. Typically electronics relate the various sensors that modern cars use in order to control a variety of electronic and mechanical functions that a car performs. The next step in this respect would be to add intelligence to these processes. Adding GPS capabilities and intelligent analysis capabilities along with more intelligent sensors could create tomorrow’s smart car. Most of this is actually present in today’s cars. However, the missing link would be adding the features of high speed 4G connectivity which can connect the sensors to the cloud where processing is done to change the driving experience. The cloud can offer a wide variety of processing options that create a unique smart driving experience.

What’s profoundly remarkable about a smart connected car is that it can provide more intelligence to assist the driver in new ways. For example, if the low fuel light comes on, the vehicle can gather a list of nearby gas stations. Furthermore, our cars can become so intelligent that they can know everything about the driver like when he is hungry or what kind of restaurants he usually prefers. Such a system can also control our speeding, mechanical troubleshooting, and many other functions. If all of this can happen in a single car, imagine the endless possibilities that businesses can benefit from with their fleets.

Cars that drive themselves are still a bit far from reach today. However, smart cars promise to provide an all new driving experience. Major manufactures like Apple and Ford are already taking steps. Many others are expected to follow.
